NORTH AMERICA: 'The Perfect Guy' Leads Monday with $1.69M; 'The Visit' a Very Close Second with $1.61M; 'War Room' Passes $40M Mark After $0.78M Daily Take

Sony's The Perfect Guy claimed first place on Monday with $1.69 million. The low-budget thriller from Screen Gems starring Sanaa Lathan, Michael Ealy and Morris Chestnut was down 70 percent from Sunday. The Perfect Guy continues to exceed expectations and perform very nicely with its cost in mind with a four-day take of $27.58 million. That places the film an impressive 7 percent ahead of the $25.86 million four-day start of last year's No Good Deed.
Universal's The Visit followed very closely behind in second place with $1.61 million. The low-budget M. Night Shyamalan directed horror thriller from Blumhouse Productions trailed The Perfect Guy by just $79,588 for the day. The Visit fell 71 percent from Sunday's performance. The film has grossed a stronger than expected $27.04 million in four days. The Visit is currently running 35 percent ahead of the $20.08 million four-day take of 2006's Lady in the Water.
Sony's War Room claimed third on Monday with $0.781 million. The break-out Kendrick Brothers produced faith based film from TriStar and AFFIRM Films was down 68 percent from Sunday and down 80 percent from last Monday's Labor Day performance. War Room surpassed the $40 million mark yesterday and has grossed a strong $40.34 million in 18 days. That places the film 21.5 percent ahead of the $33.21 million 18-day gross of last year's God's Not Dead.
A Walk in the Woods placed in fourth with an estimated $0.46 million. The Robert Redford led comedy from Broad Green Pictures has grossed a stronger than expected $20.46 million through thirteen days of release. A Walk in the Woods is currently running 8 percent behind the $22.23 million thirteen-day take of 2011's The Debt.
Late summer blockbusters Straight Outta Compton and Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation claimed fifth and sixth place with respective daily takes of $0.352 million and $0.340 million. Respective total grosses stand at $188.46 million for Paramount's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation through 46 days and at $155.90 million for Universal's Straight Outta Compton through 32 days.
